Through the vision of former Department of Tourism head Wanda Tulfo-Teo, coupled with the creative genius of Renee Salud and skilled Mindanao weavers, we were able to reignite the emergence of neo-ethnic fashion as we bought to life the second leg of Mindanao Tapestry held last May 9, 2023, at the prestigious Okada Manila. This is a testament to the power of collaboration, innovation, and cultural presentation, inspiring us to continue showcasing the rich heritage of our country through modern and captivating designs.

The runway showcase aims to illuminate Mindanao’s brilliance and to celebrate its rich cultural heritage. The masterpieces on display vividly depict the stories of the diverse tribes that have made Mindanao the Land of Promise. It is a testament to the endless possibilities that await those who seek to unravel the tales of this beautiful island.

One of the highlights of the event is that it featured 39 talented young designers who drew inspiration from the traditional “tennun” textile of Basilan into their innovative designs.

It’s truly amazing to see what can be achieved with the help of the kind and generous supporters. The event was held in cooperation with the PHILIPPINE CHARITY SWEEPTSTAKES OFFICE & partners, the Province of Basilan, Deputy Speaker Erwin Tulfo, Baluarte Motor Works, Philippine Airlines, the Province of Maguindanao del Norte, with the support of Newport World Resorts, San Miguel Corporation, Disteleria Limtuaco, Malou Bewer, Intramurous Liquer de Cacao, One Touch Fabrics, Manny Halasan, Paradise Mango, Rum Liquer, Jim Ryan Ros, Sid dela Cruz, Sy Glow, and Tokyo Grill. Lastly, the success of this fashion event in Manila has paved the way for Mindanao Tapestry II x Renee Salud to be presented globally. This year, the exquisite creations will be showcased in the countries of Portugal, Italy, and Canada in collaboration with the cities of Basilan and Maguindanao.
